Online Business Overview

Let's make a small overview of online businesses. The term “Online Business” has a lot of definitions but in this case we are referring to an internet-based business. Also an online business is often recognized as e-business.

According to Wikipedia, the definition of e-business is:

Electronic Business, commonly referred to as "eBusiness" or "e-Business", may be defined as the utilization of information and communication technologies (ICT) in support of all the activities of business. Commerce constitutes the exchange of products and services between businesses, groups and individuals and hence can be seen as one of the essential activities of any business. Hence, electronic commerce or eCommerce focuses on the use of ICT to enable the external activities and relationships of the business with individuals, groups and other businesses.

E-business is considered one of the newest activities in business. It is not longer a novelty to start an online business nowadays. The good news is that e-commerce has a place for everyone who wants to start on it and another best thing is that new software technologies allow us to develop our e-business easier than ever.

Advantages of online business

An e-business does not require a large capital, in fact for some kind of e-business you only require to invest time on it.
You can operate it from home.
An online business works in the internet so you only need a connection, as matter fact you can manage your business anywhere.
It does not need any personal; not human intervention. It works by it self.
Your target: The whole world. The best thing: You can get customers from anywhere.
Cheap promotion and most of the options are free.
It allows you to have multiple businesses and manage them at the same time.
And the best of all, you can use your time doing what you most like to do.

Disadvantages

Lack of activity. This can not be taken as a negative disadvantage it more like a personal disadvantage. Some people is used to do an activity related to their business and most of cases if a person does not have a job, he/she is without activity however it depends from person to person, personally I like to have free time while doing my favorite activities.
One of the main disadvantages are the computer hackers, worms, virus etc, the online business core is mainly a web site so it's hosted on a web server. These days’ web servers have a lot of protection against attackers, however sometimes hackers can be smarter and they steal complete e-business from the internet. I do not want to scare you but this could happen to any one, still you can buy a good web hosting service with good security. UPDATE: 06/15/09 This is an important point, keep your security as a big matter on your matter list, this blog was attacked by an internet worm recently, it was fixed but it may happen to you

As you can see, there are more advantages than disadvantages. Another advantage about business online is that you are your boss and you are the one that tells how the business will run but remember you need all the knowledge in order to feel you've got the control of your online business and more than that, you need to believe that it will work.

One problem with ebusiness is motivating yourself. Since your not working or have set hours you have to motivate yourself to work on the business everyday. It has many advantages like low cost but takes alot of hard work to make a living online. Anyone can start a business online the cost is very low and working from home has advantages. You determine how much you make by the effort you put in the business.
